Used Car Michigan Fluctuations
Once again we visited several sources for used cars in Michigan before the end of the season and had the opportunity to see some really great buys come down the pike. Obviously the level of car buying is slower than usual but the incentives are pushing things along none the less.
A great example of the used cars under 3000 is a recent used Honda Accord which was acquired through a dealership in the used cars Michigan marketplace. I believe it was 1996 or 1997 Honda Accord which was very clean and well taken care of.
The interior was reflective of your typical used car as far as normal wear and tear only. In other words there was no damage from smoking or any other unusual signs of tinkering or abuse. It appeared that all of the original factory equipment was still in tact with the exception of an aftermarket custom CD player and speakers all of which functioned just fine. The car started up fine with no smoke issues coming from the tailpipe and no odd sounds coming from under the hood either.
Speaking of under the hood the engine although it could have used a good cleaning appeared to be tight and in good order and sounded great. The paint was in excellent condition as well especially for a used car over 10 years old. Of course there was the normal small ding or scratch here and there but nothing at all which would be even remotely considered to be significant. The mileage was just under 100,000 and the power windows, power locks and all worked. The tires were fairly new as well. This basically goes to show that in today’s economic climate where fewer people are buying used cars there can be some really good buys as a result of these conditions. We basically saw sale after sale of similar used vehicles selling for well under 5000 dollars over and over.
Of course the majority of these were being sold to dealers but this only reinforces the fact that the low prices will typically be passed on to the consumer. When cars under value continue to sell at rates which reflect the volume within the used car industry things remain good for all parties involved. Volume means a lot but any experienced used car dealer will know that fluctuation is only part of a natural cycle and things will change in time.
Local used car markets vary from one area of the nation to another and we are able to see a lot of this occurring in real time. The fact is that the buyers market appears to not only have settled in to stay for a while but certain marketing endeavors and tactics which used car dealers use have developed into successful approaches to not only keeping the business going but in making customers happy through special pricing and financing offers seem to be very well received. Just because the volume fluctuates does not mean that the market is going to fluctuate in a healthy manner. It is very important for those selling used cars in Michigan for example as well as any other part of the country realize that certain adjustments must be made in order to stay competitive especially when the competition is feeling the same market fluctuations.
