Used Car Mileage Variables
When a used car still has under 100,000 miles on it then there may just be some additional appeal to potential buyers looking for a low mileage used vehicle. The fact is however in our experience there are many other aspects of the vehicle which will determine its value beyond the odometer reading. This is true to a point.
In our experience the used car which is clean both inside and out and which is in super operating condition is going to be very easy to sell at its retail value in many instances. Of course there are quite a few variables which can affect this but the fact that the odometer reads over 100,000 miles is very rarely a deterrent to prospective buyers. There are actually quite a few models in the marketplace which have the reputation of far exceeding this mark. The reality is when the vehicle passes all of the mechanical diagnostics which are run on most of the used cars which we are referring to it automatically moves towards the top of the retail value. Progressing from there will be the cosmetic aspect of the vehicle valuation.
First impressions do have a certain power about them. Of course if it is less than convincingly positive then a closer inspection can still have the ability to make an overall tremendously positive impression. This can be the case when the exterior of the used car is in less than immaculate condition yet the mechanical condition is superior. It is interesting to note that there are definitely different kinds of used car shoppers as some will let the look of the vehicle be the be all end all decision making point while others will not be so concerned about the looks as they are about performance. There is nothing really wrong with either approach because different people ultimately have different needs in their daily transportation.
We have seen some examples of used cars under 600 which were obviously not going to be in the most strikingly beautiful condition but they were in outstandingly reliable mechanical condition. As a matter of fact I have driven these by choice as my main form of daily transportation. The fact is that when it comes to saving money a vehicle which is paid for is the best car in the world if it provides cost effective reliability. Many people will choose this route because of the significant savings which come right from the start and continue far after the purchase.
With the low initial purchase price of for example $600 the amount of cash necessary to get into ownership is pretty achievable by most folks. Now when you consider that the cost of ownership for this example is going to be significantly less than other more expensive alternatives it becomes apparent that these are the real economic means of transportation. Take the cost of car insurance on this type of vehicle. Frequently owners of these will simply take the minimum required liability insurance because the overall value of the car is not worth insuring it for much. This adds up to a very nice monthly savings. Many people will take this approach to daily transportation because after all the main idea is to reliably get to work and back each day and do the extra basics such as shopping or going out for dinner and such.
The reality is that these types of used cars will most likely not have under 100,000 miles on them. This does not ultimately mean that they will be super cheap but it does mean that depending on which type you are interested in it could amount to a substantial savings from the initial purchase through the overall long term cost of ownership.
